ABOUT ÆSTHETIKA

We have chosen Æsthetika as a title for our blog to talk about the paradox of both signification the word refers to. Indeed, at the same time Aesthetics is a discipline of philosophy that deals with the concept of art through the question of perceptions and beauty. Aesthetics thus corresponds to the field designated until the eighteenth century by the "science of beauty" or "taste criticism", and has become since the nineteenth century the philosophy of art. On the other side, in everyday language, the adjective "aesthetic" refers to the one "beautiful".

Aesthetics allows us to search for meaning, for beauty in everything that can correspond to art. But what is art? Does it necessarily have to be beautiful? And what is beautiful? The aim of this blog is to step back from our prejudices on concepts to make us discover art under a different glance. We want to publish articles sometimes serious, sometimes not, that questions the links between philosophy, art, history and society, by presenting

  • portraits of artists and philosophers

  • reflexions on art or philosophical trends

  • artworks we want to comment on a philosophical point of view

  • newscast about contemporary art projects, events, books or anything we want to share about philosophy and art

But each of us have our favorite topic!
